Making Bridges Out Of Burdens
A biologist tells how he watched an ant carrying a piece of straw which seemed a big burden for it. The ant came to a crack in the earth which was too wide for it to cross. It stood for a time as though pondering the situation, then put the straw across the crack and walked over upon it.
What a lesson for us! A man’s burden can be made a bridge for his progress.
There’s a story of a man who was walking down a road with a sack of potatoes. A man stopped his wagon and offered him a ride. The man thanked him, got on and sat down.
The strange thing is that the man continued to hold onto the 50 lb. sack of potatoes. The driver said, “Hey mister, put that sack down!” The man replied, “No! Carrying me is extra weight enough; I’ll carry the potatoes.”
Needless to say, it was no extra weight for the wagon and driver, because when he picked up the man, he took the weight of his burden also. When Christ saves a person He takes the entire weight of his sins and burdens (Isaiah 53:4).
Make a bridge out of your burdens, let go of the heavy weight (Hebrews 12:1) and follow God’s admonition, “Cast thy burden upon the Lord.” You’ll find the result come to pass “...and he shall sustain thee” (Psalm 55:22).
