2003 Valentine Banquet
Remember to get your tickets today for our annual Valentine Banquet. I promise you will not regret it. We are looking forward to Dr. David McCoy and his wife, Trish, coming for this special event!
David McCoy is a native South Carolinian, reared in a preacher’s home. His wife Tricia is a native of Alabama, also reared in a preacher’s home. Many of you would be interested to know that she is the daughter of Dr. James Rushing. Dave came east and Trish came west; they met, courted and married in Georgia. We can truly say their match was made in Heaven. You will love the incredible and gifted speaking of Dr. McCoy. He is one of the funniest people I have ever known. Although he has a great sense of humor, you will be amazed at the way God has enabled him to take simple truths and make profound, life-changing principles come alive.
Do whatever you need to do to come to this year’s Valentine Banquet. I want to encourage our people to come to the banquet for many reasons; allow me to list a few:
1. You both need a night out for just the two of you.
You need a break from your schedule, where you and your spouse do something for just the two of you. “Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved?” (Song of Solomon 8:5).
2. Take this as an opportunity to show your kids how special you are to each other.
Gentlemen, the greatest thing you can do for your kids is to love their mother. Let this be a night when they know how important your unity really is. Ephesians 5:15 says, “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.”
Titus 2:4 repeats the admonition, “That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands….”
3. This is an opportunity to relax and take the stress out of your life.
You’re not cooking; you’re not even cleaning up afterward. You don’t have to do anything except show up. You will laugh and probably cry. You will find you will be glad you came when it is all over. “But Martha was cumbered about much serving…” (Luke 10:40).
4. You need the fellowship of God’s people.
There is power when God’s people gather together. When they gather together to pray, a wonderful presence of the Lord is present. When they gather together for singing and preaching, a message more often than not ensues. When God’s people gather together to celebrate the wonder of the God-given love they share, Divine and human romance is re-kindled.
5. The different setting will bring new thoughts and ideas on how to improve your marriage.
Any marriage can be improved. A good marriage can become great. A great marriage can become greater. “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not” (Jeremiah 33:3).
6. Your celebration of love will show the watching world that Jesus is real!
According to Jesus, this is the earmark of true conversion. “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:35).
“Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel ” (Philippians 1:27).
Mrs. Pope and I shall be looking for you at 6:00 p.m. Saturday night at the Hilton Garden Inn!
